Spiderman

I made this cake for my son's third birthday. I am very tired right now due to pregnancy, so it is super basic, but the kid loved it.

I made a new chocolate cake recipe that was really moist and delicious. The
filling was a marshmallow-oreo filling. I tried a new kind of frosting also. It
was soooo yummy!
This is a frozen buttercream transfer. When I was picking up the board to
put this in the freezer, my finger slipped, hence the messed up right foot of
Spiderman.

Halloween Cake

Happy Halloween!!!

Andy and I were invited to a Halloween party. They was a culinary contest, so I decided to decorate a cake. I knew it wouldn't win most delicious (because let's face it, I don't even like cake), but I knew I would have a good chance at most creative. Well, we did win most creative dessert and I won a big bag of yummy chocolates - much better than cake! :)

Here is the finished design

The fence is made from royal icing. It was very fragile and kept braking when I would try and set it up. But, in the end, I think the broken fence gives it more of an eerie feel.

Golfing

I made this cake just for fun. My hand hurt after piping all of that grass, but it was a really fun cake to make.
If you can't tell from the picture, there are hills on both sides of the cake that I added using another cake and blending it together.

BYU FOOTBALL!!!

I made this cake to celebrate the first BYU game of the 2011 season. It was my first carved cake. The kids were "helping" a lot with this cake, so there are some things that could have been prettier and better, but they were so happy helping that it is okay.

Wedding Dinner Cake

My brother-in-law got married this past weekend!!! :) I was asked to make a cake for the dinner they had the night before the wedding. It was an extremely stressful cake, but it turned out decent.

I once again did the topsy turvy design, but it turned out a little better this time. In the end, I was glad I made this cake.

Independence Day

I made this cake for the 4th of July/my nephew's birthday while I was in Utah.

I was attempting the topsy turvy style and it didn't work so well. The filling I used for the cake was a custard which I had never tried before either. The custard was too soft and the cake was sliding all over the place.
This cake was however one of the best tasting cakes I have ever had. It was a coconut cake with ginger-lime curd filling. So, despite being ugly, it tasted amazing.

It is also very hard to make a cake not at home. I had to cut the stars out by hand so they are pretty rough (thanks Nicole for doing those) and everything else needed a little improvising as well. Oh well, it was fun and well devoured.

Mother's Day Gift

For my mother-in-law and my sister-in-laws for Mother's day, I dipped oreos in chocolate and made some frosting flowers to put on top. I then put them in a tin to make it cute. My sister made the labels for the tins.

These are what the oreos looked like. These aren't the ones I made because I forgot to get a picture, but these are the ones I got the idea from.

Rapunzel Cake

I just realized I never posted this cake.

I made a Rapunzel cake for a friend's daughter's birthday. The figurine of Rapunzel is just that, a figurine. The border on the bottom of the cake is rock candy. The bottom layer of cake is chocolate with strawberry filling and the top layer of cake is strawberry with strawberry filling.

Princess Party

My daughter had her 4th birthday party and requested a princess party.

Princess cupcakes in two flavors: Chocolate and Coconut. Both had Coconut Cream Cheese icing on top.

This cake was very frustrating. It was small and should have been super simple, but it was just frustrating. I now know to put my thermostat at like 50 degrees if I am decorating a cake! Despite being lopsided due to melting, this cake tasted superb!

This is a coconut cake with coconut cream cheese icing with a raspberry filling. I seriously loved how this cake tasted.

Mother's Day 2011

I could not get a good picture of this cake for some reason. Most of them turned out very blurry.
Anyways, this cake was fun to make.

I made a dark chocolate cake from scratch with Dark Chocolate Ganache and Raspberry filling with Vanilla Buttercream icing. Delicious!
This cake is covered in fondant but all the decorations are buttercream icing. I had a lot of icing issues with this cake, so the lines are pretty rough, but oh well. I now know to turn my AC on to freezing cold when decorating a cake! :)

Olivia's B-day

My niece turned 8 on January 1st. I happened to be around for her birthday so I made her this birthday cake.

Winter Wonderland Cake

I made this cake for Sp's 2nd birthday. The cake is vanilla with candy pieces in the mix. The filling is chocolate chip vanilla buttercream. The frosting is chocolate buttercream.
I really enjoyed making this cake. It was really fun trying to make the snowman and the tree. Sp loved the cake, so I guess that is all that counts!

Dual Cake

My brother-in-law just got out of the army about 2 weeks ago and my cousin graduated from college a couple of weeks ago. My mother-in-law threw a party for both of them at her house, so I decided to make a cake for both of them. This is what I came up with:

I thought my cousins school colors were green and white, but I found out after I made the cake that they were actually purple. Oh well, the two greens just clash a bit.
The boots took me so long to make. They were really fun to make and I learned a lot while making them, but they took quite a while.
(Sorry about the poor pictures. Most of them accidentally got deleted, so this is what I was left with)

3rd Birthday Cake

My daughter turned three last week and this is the cake she requested that I make. I had a different design in mind, but she saw a picture similar to this and wanted it really badly, so I changed plans at the last minute and did what she wanted.

This cake was made from scratch, not from a box. It is a from scratch Summer Strawberry cake with a raspberry cream filling (also from scratch). Very delicious!

Flowers and borders

This was my final cake for course 2. We learned the basket weave and a bunch of different flowers.

Jungle Cake

I made this cake for my Fondant and Gum Paste class final cake. I loved making it. It was a ton of fun and, as always, learned a lot while doing it.
The tree trunks are Pretzel Rods and the "sand" they are in is brown sugar. I tried making the animal figures, but it was pretty tough, so I found these little figures at Party City for $0.25 each.

The bottom layer is Swiss Chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream icing. The top layer is strawberry cake with vanilla buttercream icing. The filling on both cakes is whipped cream with crushed oreos. I also made marshmallow fondant for the first time and used that on my cake. I am so excited to taste this. Yummy!

Valentines Cake

I made this cake for my husband for Valentines Day. I really liked how it turned out.

Fondant Sampler

This was my very first cake using fondant. Once I got past the frustration of rolling it out, I loved working with it. I worked my fondant too much that I layed over my cake, so it got a little dried out, but I know how to fix that next time.
I call it the sampler because we learned a bunch of different designs and put them all on one cake.

Temple Cake

This is a cake I decorated for my brother-in-law when he went through the temple for the first time.

Definitely looks like an amateur decorated this cake (which I am one), but it was a lot of fun and I now know how to make it look great if I ever do one of these again.
